Cheerful and loyal, Sir Colin Gearing wishes for nothing more than to do what has always been expected of him: climb the ranks of the Royal Navy and (eventually) wed the younger sister of his closest friend. But despite his well-laid plans, he finds himself stranded ashore with an inexplicable ailment rendering him unfit for service.
